7 Medical Announces Internship Program
New internship program supports workforce development for healthcare IT
MINNEAPOLIS—June 9, 2009—7 Medical Systems™, a leader in on-demand picture archiving and communication system (PACS), teleradiology and electronic medical record (EMR) solutions for healthcare, today announced the creation of an internship program to facilitate skills development for future healthcare IT workers. Initially, for the summer of 2009, 7 Medical will offer three internships in the areas of IT and help desk support; marketing and communications; and accounting and general administration.
“We are already seeing workforce shortages in healthcare technology fields, and it will be increasingly difficult to find talent as current technologies evolve and new technologies emerge. With the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) slated to infuse $20 billion to encourage the adoption of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) technologies, now is the time to cultivate the talent we need,” states Jason Studsrud, chief executive officer of 7 Medical Systems.
The internships are designed to provide students with real world, on-the-job training in specific areas of focus. The part-time, paid positions will kick off on July 1, 2009, with an eight-week summer internship program. 7 Medical systems will offer one set of internships each quarter for qualified students. A flexible, part-time schedule is available for students pursuing degrees in any one of the three targeted areas. Interns will be supported by 7 Medical Systems’ experienced team of clinical, IT, and marketing professionals.
“We are always looking for candidates with the right skill sets to join our team. As we are planning ahead for growth and to add to our team, our intent is for the internship program to provide a vital training ground to develop the talent we need internally. When you’re operating on the cutting edge of healthcare technology, it’s tough to find the right resources, so we’re taking a proactive approach towards training and recruiting through this internship program,” said Studsrud. “We will also reach out to and establish strong relationships with Minnesota’s rich education system, so we can work together to ensure that there are enough skilled workers to fill healthcare positions, many of which have yet to be created because the technologies are evolving at such a rapid pace.”
Applicants must be pursuing a four-year or advanced degree, and be registered at a Minnesota-based higher education institution. College-aged sophomores, juniors and seniors, and students in graduate-level programs are eligible to apply.
